MISSION CHURCHES
First Baptist Church has four mission churches at present along the Kobuk River, which is east of Kotzebue.
First is Kiana Baptist Mission/Church. Kiana is located about 75 miles east of Kotzebue. John and Kim Piepmeier have been there 8 years now. They are Mission Service Corp missionaries, which means they raise their own support as they do not receive an income. They work mainly with the children and youth of the village developing them in their spiritual walk with Christ. They have been a valuable asset to the ministry. John and Kim have personally shared Christ with every member of the village of Kiana. That does not mean that everyone has trusted Jesus as their personal Savior.
There are no roads going to any of the villages and that makes life much harder and everything much more expensive. Pray for John and Kim as they continue their work and ministry. They can be reached at kjpie@inutek.net.
Ambler is the next village where we have a mission church. We are without a pastor at the moment at Ambler.
We also have mission churches in Shungnak and Kobuk. Both are villages along the Kobuk River as well. In Shungnak, Brian and Debbie Love serve as the pastor there. They arrived on the field in June of this year. They are also Missions Service Corp Missionaries. They can be reached at briandeblove@yahoo.com. In Kobuk, we are without a pastor at the moment, but we have a couple that is praying about coming when they finish school next year.
Up north in Barrow, Velton and Connie Johnston serve as Church Planters trying to get a new work started up there. They have recently adopted a new born baby. They have also baptized several this summer. While we are not the sponsoring church for this new work, we do serve as an encourager, mentor, and a resource for Velton and Connie. Pray for them as they try to get a new work started up. They can be reached at velton@whiterthansnow.org.
